Kenndale (s. Everdale) best gelding in the final of the Pavo Cup

Everdale-son Kenndale (mother Amerette elite EPTM-dres D-OC by Special D, bred by W.G.M. van Driel) was the best gelding in the Pavo Cup final for 6-years old. Together with his rider Nora van Houtem they rode a super test!

Kenndale already has many successes to his name, even though he is only 6 years old. For example he won the NAF Dressage Talent Berlicum twice. He also finished third in the final of the Subli Cup at Jumping Amsterdam in 2020.

Nice performance of Lantanas and Klaproos in the final of the Pavo Cup

Yesterday the final of the Pavo Cup took place in Ermelo. Charlotte Fry competed here with the stallion Lantanas in the 5 year old class and with the mare Klaproos in the 6 year old class.

Lantanas (Sir Donnerhall x Hemmingway, breeder: S.A.C. Kleuskens) showed himself very well. We were very pleased with his performance!

Klaproos (Glamourdale x Ampère, breeder: CHR. M. Snepvangers) also did a super job and scored high points for her trot and canter. A misunderstanding about the changes unfortunately reduced the score, but we have high expectations for this mare!

Racoon (s. Kjento) fourth at the National Foal Inspection

A few weeks ago, the colt Racoon (Kjento x Governor) won the foal inspection at the CK Zeeland. With this he also scored a ticket for the National Foal Inspection. Last Friday this took place in Ermelo. Racoon showed himself well in the morning and was allowed to go through to the last round in the afternoon. Here Kjento’s son eventually finished in fourth place! Breeders Petra and Livi Verschueren congratulations!

8 foals by Kjento and Glamourdale to the National Foal Show

The list of foals that have been invited for the National Foal Inspection is known. Among these foals are 8 foals descending from Kjento and Glamourdale:

Riverdale NA

At the first foal inspection in Belgium, the Glamourdale x Don Schufro son Riverdale NA, bred by H.A. Abels from Rillaar was crowned champion. The jury comment was: “A more than sufficiently developed foal with an appealing model. He trots with a lot of allure and leg technique and naturally shows a lot of posture. He strarts the same every time. We are delighted to invite this foal to the National Foal Inspection in Ermelo.”

Rosanieta MCB

The appealing champion of the second Belgian foal selection is Kjento daughter Rosanieta MCB (out of Harry’s Girl by Lord of Loxley). “This is a foal with a beautiful appearance, front and a strong topline”, explains Floor Dröge. In movement we see a very good techique in this foal, every stride is the same and she is very nice. In canter she has a lot of balance and good scope. In addition, this foal has a good walk.”

Risamante MCB

The reserve champion of the Belgian foal inspection is also a filly: Risamante MCB (Glamourdale out of Isamante elite D-OC v. Wynton). “This is a well-developed, long-lined foal with a lot of appearance. When this foal starts to move, we see a lot of posture, a lot of flexibility and good leg technique. She shows that she can collect very well in both trot and canter.”

Red Heat

Flevoland’s foal champion is by Kjento bred out of an Uphill dam by Teun Hassink. Together with his granddaughter he decided to go to the inspection and for good reason! “A very appealing foal with a well-muscled forequarters and a nice posture. He steps vigorously. In the trot, the impulsion and the power are very positive. He also gallops with a fine impulsion and a lot of jump”.

R-Valentin

At the very busy Central Inspection of North Brabant, the Kjento son R-Valentin (out of the NMK champion Terlia keur IBOP-dres pref by Krack C, breeder I.P.S. Horse Group from Elshout) came second in the colts division. “This son of Terlia was born at the beginning of June and has a lot of charisma. He has a nice forehand and good muscling. He can walk well, has an extra canter and showed a lot of technique and uphill tendency in the trot.”

Ruby Rouge Bek

Ruby Rouge Bek (Glamourdale out of Moulin Rouge elite IBOP-dres D-OC van Bojengel, breeder Stal de Bekelaar of Kessel) of co-breeder R.H.J. Janssen from Angeren. “This foal also has a nice forehand, good withers and shoulders and a solid foundation. She moves with good rhythm and a lot of flexibility”.

Racoon

In Zeeland, the Kjento son Racoon (out of Luna elite EPTM-dr PROK D-OC by Governor) was immediately the most striking foal. Jury chairman Floor Dröge, who judged the foals together with Marian Dorresteijn, was impressed: “A well-developed foal, long-legged with a lot of charisma. He has a good length in his body and three excellent basic gaits with a lot of quality. He shows a great posture and a good movement sequence.” He is bred by L. Verschueren from Hoek and co-registered is Trainingsstal Witte Scholten VOF Gorinchem.

Raronette KS

Raronette KS, who finished fourth in Drenthe, descends from Kjento x Gribaldi and was bred by G. Koers from Gees and D.H. Smith from Gees. This foal will make her appearance during the Van Olst Sales Online Foal Auction, which ends on August 9th at 8 pm.

Everdale first KWPN approved stallion after 21 years who wins an Olympic medal

It was in 1996 that the KWPN approved stallion Weyden, under Sven Rothenberger, won two bronze medals during the Olympic Games in Atlanta. Then it was the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney where the KWPN stallion Ferro under the saddle of Coby van Baalen won a silver team medal.

Now, 21 years later, it is the KWPN approved stallion Everdale (by Lord Leatherdale x Negro, breeder P. Kluitmans from Tilburg) who won a great bronze team medal ridden by the 25-year-old English rider Charlotte Fry during the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Owner Van Olst Horses is proud of the achievements of Everdale and Charlotte Fry. Everdale lived up to his expectations in Tokyo. He was the “performance topper” as a three-year-old and won the Pavo Cup as a four-year-old.

Van Olst Horses is also proud of its stallions Lord Leatherdale and the preferent Negro. The Everdale Olympic medal is the ultimate confirmation of the breeding philosophy and is an exceptional stimulus and a source of inspiration to continue the chosen path.

But Van Olst Horses had even more beautiful moments during “Tokyo 2020”.
The own breeding product Elegance (by Negro x Reina by Monaco breeder Van Olst Horses) performed very well under Beatriz Ferrer Salat.
Fendi T (by Negro x Sursela by Lester, breeder W. Timmers from Volkel), owned by Van Olst Horses, also performed well under Severo Jurado Lopez. Both Fendi T and Elegance were in the Spanish team that finished in 7th place.
We also enjoyed Bufranco in Tokyo (by Negro x Franka by Zewind, breeder fam Kroot from Haghorst). Bufranco was sold by Van Olst Horses to the Danish Charlotte Heering as a 5-year-old. This combination showed super form in Tokyo and was the traveling reserve of the Danish team.

Great influence of keur stallion Animo in top individual ranking Tokyo 2020

The influence of the keur stallion Animo s. Almé in the top of the individual standings during the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 is significant.

Animo was discovered as a young horse by Van Olst Horses and subsequently approved by the KWPN. He has been at stud in Den Hout for most of his career.

Animo himself jumped as one of the first KWPN stallions (after Olympic Treffer) at the Olympic Games, this was for Animo in Barcelona in 1992.

Through his sons Andiamo and Animo’s Hallo, who were both at stud in Den Hout, his influence in the individual standings of Tokyo is great. The silver medal winner H & M All Inn, ridden by Peter Fredricson, comes out of the Andiamo mare Fortune. The bronze medal winner Beauville, ridden by Maikel van der Vleuten, comes out of the Andiamo grandmother Pinxter. The fifth-placed H&M Indiana, ridden by Malin Baryard Johnsson, comes out of the Animo’s Hallo daughter Halifax.

Proud on Beauville (s. Bustique)

“Olympic Individual Bronze”, what an achievement by Maikel van der Vleuten and his superstar Beauville (by Bustique x Jumpy des Fonteines x Andiamo. Breeder: Pascal Habets – Kerkrade).

Congratulations to Maikel van der Vleuten, breeder Pascal Habets (and Monique of course) and Team NL.

Special compliments to breeder Pascal Habets.

Pascal, as a former loyal customer of ours (now “Z” customer), brought his mare Iris (by Bergerac) to our topper Andiamo.

From this combination came the mare Pinxter (granddam Beauville). Pinxter went to our stallion Jumpy des Fonteines, and produced Wrinton (dam Beauville). This Wrinton was later prepared by us for the KWPN inspection. We presented her at the mare inspection and covered her by Bustique stationed with us.

Beauville came out of this combination, who was sold to us by Pascal at the age of 1 year.

In turn we sold Beauville to Niels Lenaarts, and from there we lost his track, until the moment that he had international successes under Maikel van der Vleuten.

The reason that Beauville, became Beauville  “Z” can be explained.

Pascal’s life companion, Monique, was an employee at the secretariat of “Stoeterij Zangersheide”.

Here is an article published at the “Z” magazine:

‘BEAUVILLE Z IS A WONDERFUL STORY, ALTHOUGH IT’S NOT ALWAYS LIKE THIS’

Dutch National Coach Rob Ehrens waited till after CHIO Rotterdam to announce his Olympic Team for Tokyo. That team consists of Marc Houtzager (Sterrehof’s Dante NOP), Harrie Smolders (Dolinn NOP) and Maikel van der Vleuten with Beauville Z, who steered Team Oranje to victory in the Dutch Nations Cup with two clean rounds. In early June Beauville Z and van der Vleuten finished second in the GCT GP of Valkenswaard.

That’s what they call an Olympic report card of great merit. For 33-year-old Maikel van der Vleuten this is going to be his third consecutive Games. He took part in London (2012, VDL Groep Verdi TN) where he won Team Silver and in Rio de Janeiro (2016, VDL Groep Verdi TN). Initially, Maikel was selected for the Dutch Olympic shortlist with Dana Blue, with Beauville Z he was on the longlist. In March however, Dana Blue got injured at a competition in Doha and hence van der Vleuten set his hopes on 11-year-old Beauville Z, his other Olympic trump card who seamlessly promoted himself to the highest level and recently proved to be on top form. His Olympic ticket is a well-earned award.

PASCAL AND MONIQUE HABETS

Beauville Z was born in Pascal and Monique Habets yard, the latter a former employee of Zangersheide. She closely follows the sport and then informs Pascal: ‘Of course this was exhilarating and when you know that your breeding product is in the running you get your hopes up. Although I’m not as vividly preoccupied with it as Monique is. She was the one to break the news to me.’ Pascal laughs. ‘I have no idea why, but when I heard the news it spontaneously brought back memories of Beauville Z as a foal. What was he like? I called back to mind what he looked like then, but I cannot say that he was special or stood out. Could I see his Olympic qualities back then? Sorry, I’m not the person to say, I haven’t got the knowhow. Early this year one of my clients told me that Beauville Z would go to Tokyo. Time has proven him right, but I was not in a position to predict that. It’s simple, we do agricultural- and stock farming. We have plenty of work here at the farm and I cannot keep tabs of everything. Horses are our hobby. I have always owned horses: ponies, Friesian horses. During my school years there once was a time when I didn’t have a horse for six months because I was too busy. That was not an option, I absolutely needed to have a horse again’, Pascal smiles. He has never been a proper equestrian and following the sport is no priority. But still, he has the passion: ’The nice thing about breeding is creating new life, the foal that is born and watching it grow up. That’s what I enjoy.’

EQUINE TEST CENTRE

‘After I had been without horses for a spell it started itching again, so I looked for a broodmare and found one at the Coveco Equine Test Centre. A deliberate choice, I absolutely didn’t want to invest a lot of money. At the Test Centre I saw a herd of some sixty horses and zoomed in on one mare, who now is Beauville Z’s 3rd dam. A Lucky Boy daughter, at least, that’s what she was professed to be. It’s no surprise I suppose, everyone knows the stories, but later my mare turned out not to be a Lucky Boy daughter after all. I didn’t mind though, I had a broodmare for a bargain price.’

GERT JAN VAN OLST

So Pascal had his broodmare, now the search was on for a suitable stallion. For that Pascal sought the help of Gert Jan van Olst. ‘When like me, you are a hobby breeder then you have to bring in the knowledge, insights and experience of experts and that took me to Gert Jan van Olst. For hobby breeders it’s important to have the support of a circle of professionals. When Monique worked at Zangersheide we sought their advice too, and that also worked out well. Before that I always looked for information and guidance from Gert Jan van Olst, which has always been very helpful. Gert Jan is an honest and reliable man. He gave his advice for a stallion choice and when looking at Beauville Z, that wasn’t bad at all’, Pascal laughs. ‘Gert Jan often bought our foals. He recommended Bustique (Indoctro x Grannus) to us, Beauville Z’s sire. When he was a yearling we sold Beauville Z to Van Olst. For us horses are a hobby, for Gert Jan it’s a profession. He is also the one who can combine the horses to the right riders. Beauville Z was lucky to get Maikel van der Vleuten in the saddle, that obviously makes a difference.’ Beauville Z is the fourth generation that was born in our yard. Wrinton (Jumpy des Fontaines) who is Beauville Z’s dam, has given us several foals, although not all of them got the same opportunities as Beauville Z did. By now we have bred around thirty foals, on average one or two each year, but it doesn’t always work out. Maybe because the mare doesn’t get pregnant, sometimes the foal or mare dies. We have experienced it all. Beauville Z is a wonderful story, but it’s not always like this.’

MAIKEL VAN DER VLEUTEN

Neither in Valkenswaard nor in Rotterdam was Pascal there to see his Beauville Z on the job, because of his own busy schedule. ‘That’s a pity I think. We don’t really live that far away from Maikel but still, I have never visited him. I don’t know him personally, people say that he is a very pleasant person. Maybe it’s time to make that happen now. Then we’ll get to see Beauville Z again, the last mental picture I have of him is when he left our place as a yearling.’

And then Pascal solemnly states that he is going to side-line his work for Tokyo: ‘Doesn’t that take place during the night? I’ll happily stay awake for it then. I’m going to be his supporter, and who knows!?’

After 21 years, finally an Olympic medal for an approved KWPN stallion.
